Consecration and Installation of Rt. Revd. Dr. Paul Swarup

The Rt Revd Dr Paul Swarup was appointed by the Full Episcopal Body of the Synod of  the Church of North India on October 12, 2022 to be a Bishop in the church of God. The consecration service of the newly elected Bishop was on the 14th of October 2022 at St Thomas Church, Mandir Marg. This was presided by the Most Revd Bijay K. Nayak, Moderator, Church of North India. The consecrating Bishops along with the Moderator were The Most Revd Dr. Pradeep K Samantaroy, The Rt Revd B B Baskey, The Rt Revd Madhukar U Kasab, The Rt Revd Dr Prem Prakash Habil and, The Rt Revd Surendra Kumar Nanda. The service was witnessed by twenty bishops of various Dioceses of the Church of North India.

The newly consecrated bishop was subsequently installed on Sunday 16th October 2022  as the Bishop of the Diocese of Delhi of the Church of North India. He was installed in the Cathedra. The ceremonial service at the Cathedral Church of the Redemption was witnessed by over 750 members of the Diocese. The Rt Revd Dr Paul Swarup was installed as the 10th Bishop of the Diocese of Delhi.


The consecration and installation ceremonies were  witnessed by several others all over the world as the ceremonial services were live-streamed on Youtube channels who in turn sent their greetings as the answer to their prayers - “A Chosen One.”

Bishop Paul is 59 years old and has worked in the Diocese of Delhi since 1987. He has served in various parishes in Haryana, parts of UP and Delhi. He holds a PhD in Old  Testament/Dead Sea Scrolls from the University of Cambridge and is one of the fifteen members of the international team of translators of the New International Version. He has written commentaries on Exodus, Proverbs, Jeremiah and Lamentations and was also one of the Old Testament editors of the South Asia Bible Commentary. He is a well known international scholar and has been a speaker at the Lambeth Conference in 2022.

He is married to Nina. Ma’am is now the first lady of the Diocese, and she has partnered with him in the ministry over these years. They have a son, Daniel Swarup who is pursuing his Master’s in Software Systems Engineering in the University College London.
